Crochet Bunting

Bunting is fun, easy and makes a window feel vintage with not a lot of effort. These ones are a triangle granny square, if you can make a granny square, you can make these!

I used a 4mm hook DK weight cotton yarn

Choose one: Denim, Red, Aqua, Beehive, Green, Pink.

Round 5: Join in yarn. Chain 3 (counts as first DC), 3DC, Ch3, 4 DC, Ch1, (4DC, Ch1, 4DC, Ch1, 4DC, Ch1, 4DC, Ch3, 4DC, Ch1) x2. Join in top of Chain 3 in the first set.

Finished.

Make as many as you like.

For a solid colour triangle, turn work at the end of each round instead of cutting and starting new yarn.

To connect bunting flags, chain stitch and join the flags along the top, leaving desired length of chain stitches at beginning, between the flags and end.

 My Favourite Crochet Edge

I love using this simple edging stitch on my pillows, runners and pot holders.

In a chain space: sc, hdc, dc, hdc, sc, ch 1
Continue all the way around doing 2 in the corners.

This long skinny runner was for the window ledges where I put plants to make them look cute and protect from the plant pots

4 Granny Pillow

Does anything beat the classic granny square? They are simple and versatile.
This pillow is the same front and back, 4 large granny's joined in a large square.

I used 8 colours of Lori Holts Chunky Thread.
3.5 mm hook
Make or by a pillow insert the same size as your finished pieces. This one is 14 x 14 inch

Im not going to explain how to make a granny square as there are are thousands of tutorials already out there, hopefully you know how to make one, if not please have a look on youtube :)

These are as follows:
First row:
Chain 5, join. 3 dc, ch 2. repeat three more times.
Second row and following rows:
Three double crochet (dc), 1 chain (ch) for the sides, three dc, ch 2 , 3 dc for the corners.

Once you have 7 rows finished of each of the 4 front squares, use the join as you go method and white to join the 4 squares together.
Make the back the same way

Join the sides:
With good sides facing out, start anywhere and stitch the following into both sides to "sew" them together:
1sc, 1hdc, 1 dc, 1hdc, 1sc in a chain space, chain 1 and repeat.
For the center joins add one extra dc
For the corners add 2 extra dcs

When you have 3 sides crocheted together, insert the pillow and continue, trapping the pillow inside.

Use colours that make you happy :D

Join as you go to connect the squares for the front and back

Vintage Granny Stripe Blanket

Vintage inspired throw to brighten a couch, chair, bed or caravan.

This version measures 40 inches wide and can be as long as you like.

Hook: 4mm

Yarn:  DK acrylic yarn (Stylecraft Special DK)

Each row needs 6 grams. Find all your bits, get postal or kitchen scale and weight your scraps

Tip 1:  Every few rows weaving in your ends so you can finish as you go.

Tip 2: to make any other size, simply chain as long or short as you wish and do the first row of DC clusters. Before you start the second row, weigh the ball your working from, finish the row and weigh again. This will tell you how many grams of your yarn will cover 1 row.

Chain 131 stitches loosely

Foundation Row:
Make 3 DCs (1 cluster) in the 5th chain from the end. This is 1 beginning link for the next row and your first cluster. Skip 2 chains and make a cluster in the 3rd chain. Repeat to the end.

Make 1 DC in the last chain. Leaving a tail, cut yarn.

Row 1:
I like to work each row right to left so the clusters all have the same look.
So go back to the beginning and in the 5 chain link you created on the row below, add new color and chain 3, make 2 DC. This will make your first cluster.  Make a 3 DC cluster in each space all the way across to the end.

Make your last 3 DC cluster in the ending link, leaving a tail cut yarn.

Row 2:
Insert hook into the top of the first DC on the last row.

Join in your new color and chain 5 (link created)

Make 3 DC cluster all the want to the end.

Make a link, make 1 DC into the top of the last DC on the previous row. Leave a tail and cut.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 until desired length. Make a row of SC to finish it off.

Abi's Bunting

My beautiful niece Abi gave me a ball of red yard for Christmas, I turned it into bunting for her room

The ball of yarn!  It was DK acrylic

I made 2 sizes of hearts:
Small I used a 4mm hook and yarn held single
Large I used a 6.5 mm hook and yarn held double

Leave a long tail. Chain 4
In the first chain (First chain you made) work:
3 tc, 3dc, ch1, 1 tc, ch1, 3dc, 3tc, ch3. Join to center hole with slip stitch. Leave a long tail

Add Beads:
I use a piece of beading wire folded in half to put on beads. I had to dig through my stash to find beads with large enough holes. I found a few 2/0 and 33/0 seed beads for the small and 33/0 and some ceramic beads for the large.

Catch the yarn in the fold of the wire:

Thread on beads to the ends:

Pull through. If its super tight I use some pliers to help

Push the beads down and overhand knot, don't make it too tight.

I tied another overhand knot about 2cm above the first one and trimmed the yarn. That created the loop to thread onto the base chain.

Base Chain:

With 6.5mm hook and yarn help double. Chain until required length. Mine was about 2 meters. Overhand knot the ends and trim ends.

In total I made 6 small and 5 large hearts.
